Samsung
has just announced its newest mobile processing unit at CES event
which features 8 processing cores with has an implementation of ARM's
big.LITTLE concept which pairs low-performance but low-power cores
with pairs low-performance but low power cores with high-performance
high-power core. Samsung Exynos 5 Octa is constructed from four (4)
ARM Cortex-A15 cores, the same IP as features in NVIDIA's Tegra 4
chip.
These
processor are joined by a second cluster of four Cortex-A7 cores
which can take over undemanding background tasks such as managing
network traffic, playing audio or handling the modern in a
smartphone. According to Samsung this new processor gives up to 7o
percent higher efficiency than their previous quad-core Exynos
processor.
The
company's vision of “Mobilizing Possibility,” highlighting the
role of components as the engine behind innovations across the mobile
landscape. The keynote event illustrated possibilities that Samsung
envision offering through its component solutions, and introduced new
products that will herald such expectations – shared, Dr.
Stepehen Woo of System LSI Business, Devices Solutions Division,
Samsung Electronics. He added, “We believe the right DNA drives
the discovery of what's possible. Components are building blocks the
foundations on which devices are built. We at Samsung's component
solutions are creating new, game-changing components across all
aspects of devices.”
Samsung
has not yet mention on when could be launches on the market , the
first Exynos 5 Octa devices out in the market and the price range.
